Privacy

Veriride is a South African service and this policy is written under the Protection of Personal Information Act. In plain words: we keep the least we can, for as short as we can, and we tell you what it is.

What we keep

Your name and photo. Shown to the person on the other side of a check, and to nobody else.

Your email or phone number. To sign you in and to let somebody book a ride for you. Stored apart from the profile a driver sees.

Checks. Time, plate, both names, and the outcome — including when somebody did not answer. This is the product; it is what a record is made of.

Live photos from a check. Deleted when the ride ends. A hash is kept so the record can say a photo was taken and matched, without the photo existing any more.

Location, only while something is running. A walk you are sharing, or an emergency you started. It stops when that stops, and we do not keep a trail of where you go otherwise.

What we do not do

We do not sell anything about you, ever. We do not let a driver look a passenger up by name, number or email — there is no such search in the product, and building one is not on the roadmap. We do not run advertising, so nothing here is collected to target you.

Who else sees it

Google Firebase stores it, on our behalf. If you subscribe, the app store handles the payment and we never see a card. Nobody else, unless a court orders it or somebody’s life is in danger.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold, correct it, or have it deleted — in the app under You → What we keep about you, or by writing to us. Deleting your account deletes your profile and your photos. Records of checks other people were part of are kept, because they are that person’s record too.

Children

Veriride is for people 18 and over. A parent may book a ride for a child from their own account; the child does not get one.
